Schoepf’s Bar-B-Que

Schoepf's Bar-b-que

In the South, we love our barbecue. Having lived near Memphis, TN my whole life, I remember the surprise in finding Texans love their brisket and vowed I’d never turn my back on barbecue done the “right way,” lumps of pork smothered in bitter-sweet sauce. And while I still favor my palette that originated on the banks of the muddy waters, I have made room for the Texas take on my childhood favorites.

Shoepf’s Bar-B-Que in Belton offers a wide range of smoked, dry rubbed barbecue awesomeness. You walk in to a giant menu of meals and plates. Ribs are ordered by the pound, and sides include everything from cheesy mashed potatoes to cole slaw. I’ve been a couple of times, and I have to say, I have pretty much enjoyed everything and have always left full. Continue reading

Bang for Your Buck: Taqueria Mexicano Grill

Taqueria Mexicano Grill

While there are definitely more savory Mexican options, I think I’ve probably been to Taqueria Mexicano Grill more than any other in the area to date for two reasons: drink specials and cheap/filling food.

You are served free chips, salsa and queso when you sit down. However, I have ordered their queso with meat and queso flameado as my main thing while there. (I have a cheese addition, okay?!) Both were great!

My normal entrée choice tends to be the chicken taco salad or chicken quesadilla depending on how much I feel like indulging calorie-wise. Coupled with the $1 Margarita specials they offer on Tuesday, two can eat for between $20-30.Taqueria Mexicano Grill

Unfortunately, service-wise, they can be hit or miss. I’ve had great waiters that kept the rounds of chips and drinks coming, but I’ve had waiters forget to even bring me silverware despite several requests. My suggestion is to go with the idea of sitting for a while and spending time with friends. Don’t be in a hurry and roll with what comes.

Crow’s Burger Shop in Temple

Crow's Burger Shop in Temple photo 1

I’ve been neglecting this little side project of mine for a while now, but not for lack of material. I’ve actually built up quite a collection of photos and savory weigh-in on some local eateries. My apologies for the lag, but here’s to starting the new year with some serious deliciousness!

The first of which involves a random hankering for something more substantial than the deli meat and cheese in the fridge, something terrible for your waistline but awesome for life at the same time: Crow’s Hamburger Shop in TempleCrow's Burgers

The boyfriend and I each got a cheeseburger, order of fries and a coke. It was a pretty tasty burger. And the price didn’t make me instant-regret my lunchtime decision.
